Restorations Using Tooth-Colored Materials
For over 100 years, dentistry has restored teeth primarily with a material made of mercury and silver. Although this amalgam has done its job well, we have had to live with its weaknesses. These weaknesses include cracking teeth due to expansion of the material, and restorations turning black as the silver in the material corrodes.
Today, we use tooth-colored restorations in all of our restorative treatments from cavities, inlays/onlays, and tooth bonding to crowns and bridges. Your restoration will look and act like your natural teeth. You'll have a bright, healthy and stronger smile!

Restorations :: Crowns and Bridges by Dr. McGregor
A crown is a permanent restoration that is placed over the entire tooth surface. My choice is to always place an onlay or an inlay in preference to a crown whenever possible, but there still are situations that demand this treatment option. Crowns reach from the biting surface to the gum line. A core build-up, which is a resin material that is placed inside the preparation, may be required to give the new crown extra strength, since there may not be sufficient tooth structure to work with.
Crowns are achieved in a two-visit process, requiring a 10-day turn around from the dental lab.
We choose only the very best laboratories for superior results. Crowns now may be done in new white materials. On back chewing teeth, gold has been, and still is a possible option, when appearance is not a concern. It is a very strong, long-lasting material that provides excellent durability and function.
Missing teeth can cause the mouth to sag and the face to look older. If you're missing one or more teeth, Dr. McGregor may recommend either an implant or a bridge as your best possible option.
A bridge spans the space where one or more teeth are missing. A bridge helps maintain the natural shape of your face and provides support for your lips and cheeks.
When selecting materials to make a bridge, Dr. McGregor considers appearance and function of the replacement teeth. Porcelain or gold alloys may be used. At least two or more visits generally are needed to prepare the teeth, craft the bridgework, place it in the mouth and make adjustments so it is comfortable.
